Why Ive Decided to go Raw!

Eating raw food is more than a diet, it’s a choice to be healthier and have wellness through the foods you eat. Let your food be your medicine and let your medicine be your food. I truly believe this and that is why I’m going raw!" -Urban Raw Food Goddess-
Welcome to my Raw Foods Detox Blog!
I wanted to start with that quote because after some intense research I really feel that this is the way to optimal health and vibrations. Throughout my detox I will be sharing my whole experience on this blog in order to give people a better idea of what the program is like. So here it goes!
I want to start by giving a little background about myself. It should be understood that this detox is unique to each person that is doing it. It can have different effects depending on each individual's body, how seriously the program is taken, what someone's daily schedule is like, and what an individual's lifestyle was like before they started the program. So in order to promote understanding and lay it all out there, I just want everyone to have an idea of my general lifestyle pre-detox so you might be able to understand my personal experience better. Not everyone is going to have the same experience as me and I hope to include stories from the other people doing this detox with me in order to show a range of different detox results. With that being said...
I've been a SAD (Standard American Diet) eater all my life. I was diagnosed with Diabetes in 2008 and became insulin dependent. This is when I first began to study this "concept" of eating "raw". I read the work of Dewayne McCulley - Death to Diabetes. This book fascinated me because not only does this gentleman have the same dis-ease as me but he cured it NATURALLY with just a change in the way he thought about and ate his foods. After this I shared some of the concepts with my wife and we decided to do the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart Program sponsored by Dr. Neal Barnard and his organization The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Upon completion of the program my wife continued her path to veganism for awhile until she slipped back into her habits. I on the other hand wanted to go a step beyond and go for live raw foods. My initial decision to go vegetarian/vegan had a lot to do with my own personal health issues. But I slipped back into my old eating habits as well. It wasn't long until I found David Wolfe, and Dr. Gabriel Cousens and the Raw for 30 days DVD. I was hooked!
So after years of research and self reflection I have decided to go Raw! For me, this is the only way I see of overcoming this dreaded dis-ease called Diabetes and getting myself in ultimate shape and shedding this excess weight! In doing the 21 day Kick-Start I felt very good! I noticed my blood sugar levels begin to drop! I began to pay more attention to fruits and vegetables. My everyday well being was amazing. I had more energy, I felt better on a daily basis then I ever had before. But as time went on..I slipped yet again into the SAD diet.
Fastforward a year or two later, now I've found Dr. Baxter Montgomery down in Houston,Texas. Him along with Dewayne McCulley, in my opinion, are the foremost African American scholars on the subject of Diabetes and Raw/Vegan Nutrition. My wife and I purchased his 4-week Bootcamp and have decided to make a go of it again to obtain optimal health and wellbeing.
I decided to do these detoxes for a few other reasons as well. First I wanted to see what everyone was talking about. I've read about so many people who rave about their fantastic results they've had while doing only raw foods and green smoothies!, so I wanted to find out myself if it could in fact have some sort of benefit. Secondly, I want to be able to control the food cravings I have. I want to overcome this toxic food addictive lifestyle that has consumed me. And of course there is the general wish to cleanse my body. I'm not always the healthiest person and I really believe that the more natural things are the better.
This detox will hopefully give my body time to get rid of all the processed junk that I ingest on a daily basis so that I can start fresh and really live as healthy as possible. And finally I want to prove to myself that I can make healthy decisions while those around me are not (or at least be conscious of, and responsible for, my unhealthy decisions). So that is how I came to start this detox with Dr. Baxter Montgomery.
I think that covers the introduction. So check back often for updates and to see my daily meal plans. Feel free to leave a comment with any questions/support/ramblings/rants/raves or whatever else you might feel like saying. I'll try to respond to any questions as quickly as possible.
Allah willing, more later!

This is my new theme song!
My Eyes are Green...

I have been reading the works of Victoria Boutenko and got into the green smoothie revolution. Can I get enough calories from drinking vegetables and fruit for breakfast, a kale salad for lunch and another smoothie in the evening for dinner? How will I feel after a couple of weeks? There is only one way to find out.The song I chose for this post is Green Eyes by E. Badu AKA Analog Girl in a Digital World. It speaks to my love affair with food and the addictive consequences. "Makes me feel so sad and hurt inside. You've done something to my mind and I can't control it But I don't love you any more Yes I do, I think Loving you is wrong baby" "Makes me feel so sad and hurt inside feel embarrased so I want to hide silly me I thought your love was true...Before I heal, it's gonna be a while I know it's gonna be a while, chile"
